Answers
How do I purchase products from International Microsystems, Inc.?
To place an order, please call us at (408) 942-1001.
How do I set up a Login and Password to access the support area in this website?
Once you register your product, we will send you an email with instructions on how to set up a Login.
I forgot my login name and password for accessing the support area in this website. How do I find out what they are?
Please click on the Contact Us tab on the top of the page and fill out the contact form. We will then send an email to you with your login information.
Why do flash device sizes vary?
Flash memory is designed to block bad sections of the device to be invisible to the user. The actual size of the memory depends on the number of bad blocks.
You may request the vendor to provide devices that are exactly the same size.
They must do this process when they are building the parts.
How to change the IP address of the equipment?
To change the IP address on the SUSE operation system, download this document.
My system shows a message of "Enter Password" on start up screen of Linux before the Linux GUI is displayed. There is only a text screen. What can I do?
The IMI testers are based on the Linux operating system (OS). Prior to booting the OS performs a check of the hard disk to insure the system is sound. When the OS discovers a problem, it sometimes be able to correct it, or it may sometimes stop during booting. This could mean that the disk and file system is permanently damaged, or it could mean it can be corrected with a little work. You should first make sure you are logged in. The login name should be 'root'. You can usually hit enter at the password prompt (since there is no password). However, some systems may require a password of '123456'. If you cannot log in, you should contact the IMI technical support, your disk may be damaged. If you can log in, perform a file system check (and repair) from the command prompt: fsck /f This command may take a long time to run depending on the size of the hard disk. After this command has completed, reboot the system. If this is unsuccessful, you should contact IMI technical support.
How do I verify an Address Message failure?
Since the IMI duplicator checks every byte when it does a verify, it is capable of detecting subtle errors that are very difficult to detect by simply looking at the files.
If the following type of error message shows up in the GUI Red Icon or in log files, this means that a specific byte at a memory location has an error.
Address, exp,soc errors - Address AEX890ll (this is the memory location that has the error)
Exp 0xFA (this is expected data in hex number format)
Soc 0xF2 (this is the actual data measured)
To see this problem on your PC, depends on the type of file that your are checking. Video, text or sound files will give different symptoms. Seeing the file icon on your PC does NOT guarantee the file is good.
This type of error message WILL cause:
- Video - Bad frames when you run a video.
- Documents - Missing text in a text based file.
- Sound files (MP3,etc)- May have gaps in the music or popping sounds.
Contact IMI for information on other types of error messages.
I see a Red LED or Red Icon ?Card Size Error?
This covers methods to work around the problem of card size problems.
Cards may actually vary several megabytes, eg. a 1GB card may really be 975 MB. The properties page on the Graphical User Interface (GUI) shows the actual value.
To find the smallest card:
- Take several blank cards and plug them into the IMI unit
- Run standard Copy From Master/ Program-Verify.
- The smaller cards will give you a Red Led/Icon.
- Verify the Red cards are the same size by using Properties on your PC.
- Use one of the cards as a master.
The rule of thumb:
- Smaller Master to Larger Copy= Ok
- Larger Master to Smaller Copy = Failure (not enough space available)
Does Card Duper support any other memory devices other than memory cards?
Card Duper was designed specifically to duplicate memory cards. Card Duper supports a long list of memory cards, such as PCMCIA, CompactFlash, Smart Media, MMC etc.
Does Card Duper operate as a stand alone system, or must it be interfaced to a computer?
Card Duper operates very nicely as a stand alone system utilizing the front panel display and keypad. Card Duper can be interfaced to a PC two ways:
- RS-232C Serial
- 10Base-T Ethernet
Can I mix different kinds of cards in Card Duper and copy them successfully?
Card Duper was designed to duplicate only cards which are identical to the master card you are copying. This means they must be the identical manufacturer, type and density. This is because all manufacturers use different memory components, sometimes even in their own products. It would be impossible to tackle the duplication task any other way.
Do I need CompactFlash card adapters? Or can I insert CompactFlash cards directly into Card Duper?
All copying slots in Card Duper are standard PCMCIA connection slots. They are durable and much cheaper to replace if you ever break one. This also adds to Card Duper's flexibility, because different adapters allow you to duplicate a variety of memory cards in the same duplication slot. There are a few exceptions, such as Epson cards. It's important to tell us what cards you need to duplicate before ordering a Card Duper system.
Can you duplicate USB Pen drives regardless of data, file system or OS?
The duplicator perform the pure binary image copy so it doesn't matter of the file system or OS.
Can you duplicate from any size to any size if the data will fit?
Yes
Can you duplicate from any brand to any brand?
Yes
Can you duplicate from USB 1.1 Pen drive to USB 2.0 and visa versa?
Yes
Is there a time difference if duplicating more USB Drives (i.e is it faster to duplicate 4 vs 11 targets)?
It is slightly slower to duplicate multiple parts in parallel, but not significantly so. Duplicating 12 parts takes a few percent longer than duplicating one part.
What is the speed (i.e average realistic and potential maximum expressed in MB/sec) of duplication?
This depends upon the capabilities of the USB controller in the device. We have seen write speeds from 1KB/sec to 14KB/sec. We have seen read speeds from 1KB/sec to 17Kb/sec.
Can you verify the USB Pen drives after they have been duplicated?
Yes, and we typically perform verify after writing
Is verification an additional step or can this be done automatically after the duplication is finished?
Verification is a separate command, which is typically included in a duplication script. Verify-after-write could be omitted if the user desired, but normally it is included.
Is it possible to clone USB hard disk drive?
Certainly
Does the system report errors and reasons for errors and log them for later viewing?
Errors are reported, along with relevant data. If error logging is turned on (this is a script option), the errors are logged there as well.
If there has been an error on one of the USB drives will the duplication process abort or will it continue duplicating the other usb drives that have no issues?
An error in one device will not affect the other devices being tested.
Is there any method to recover if a bad sector is found?
No.
Is there a supervisor password to prevent unauthorized use?
The M7600 can be configured as a standalone duplicator. In standalone mode, there is no password required. In the other mode, a monitor, keyboard and mouse are connected to the duplicator and user is required login name and password to login to the system.
